A common misconception is thinking they are interchangeable or that one is simply a different name for the other. Standard deviation describes data spread within a single sample, while standard error of a proportion describes the variability of sample proportions *across multiple samples*. Another misconception is believing that a small standard deviation automatically implies a small standard error of a proportion, or vice-versa. They measure different things and are calculated differently; a small SD doesn't guarantee a small SEp, especially with small sample sizes. It is also important to remember the SEp is specifically for proportions (categorical data), not continuous data.
